A SLAP tear is a painful shoulder condition that occurs at the point where the biceps tendon attaches to the labrum. The labrum is a ring of cartilage around the shoulder socket that stabilizes the head of the humerus. When a tear in the labrum occurs, the shoulder loses its stability, and pain becomes part of everyday life.
Paul visited Manhattan Orthopedic Care due to terrible pain in his shoulder. Moreover, hi lost his arm mobility as a result of shoulder instability and decreased shoulder strength.
He had an appointment with Dr. Armin Tehrany, one of the top New York shoulder specialists. After he provided details for the sensations in his shoulder and the pain level he experienced, Dr. Tehrany did a thorough evaluation of his shoulder.
Since shoulder conditions and treatment are Dr. Tehrany’s core specialty, it took only a couple of minutes for Dr. Tehrany to form a diagnosis. The preoperative diagnosis included right SLAP tear and bursitis.
Dr. Tehrany recommended proceeding with the surgery to repair the damage and help Paul live a pain-free life again. They both agreed to proceed with arthroscopic shoulder surgery.
During the surgery, Dr. Tehrany discovered several other issues that were also affecting Paul’s shoulder. With the help of his physician associate, Tim Lopresti, Dr. Tehrany managed to perform several procedures at once to restore Paul’s shoulder. Along with the arthroscopic SLAP repair, Dr. Tehrany and Tim also performed subacromial decompression and superior capsular release.
Four months after the surgery, Paul visited Manhattan Orthopedic Care for a follow-up appointment. His shoulder strength was almost back to normal, and he was able to move his arms in all directions he wanted to.
