Dr. Tehrany on coronaphobia: It can create a lot of anxiety

With the current COVID-19 situation, we all struggle to make sense of the changes that take place in such a short period. As a result, a variety of new emotions have introduced themselves into our lives. A new condition that has formed due to COVID-19 has been called coronaphobia. It is a term used to describe disproportionate, irrational reactions to the current outbreak stemming from fear of contraction.
In his latest video, Dr. Armin Tehrany talks about this new term, explaining what it means and if it is the right one to illustrate the situation.
“I have just learned a new word, coronaphobia. It means the fear of getting the coronavirus that can create a lot of anxiety, a lot of anger and fear, and fuel racist and other terrible attitudes that people may have,” Doctor Tehrany explains.
Concerned about people’s well-being, Dr. Tehrany reminds us to remain united and extend compassion towards each other in the turbulent time that we are all in.
“I think the best thing to do is for all of us to realize we are all in the same boat. We do not have testing yet to understand accurately who is safe and who is not, so let us just do the best we can and let us try to be extra kind,” Dr. Tehrany says.
Moreover, Dr. Tehrany highlights that it’s perfectly fine to lean virtually on those around you for emotional support.
“We are all doing our best, and if you need help, it is okay to ask for it, because we all need it right now,” concludes Dr. Тehrany.
