Lakers’ Gasol Undergoes Successful FAST Technique Procedure

LA Lakers’ Pau Gasol underwent successful surgery to regenerate his patellar tendons on both of his knees. The forward had a Focused Aspiration of Scar Tissue – FAST technique procedure which involves a probe inserted into the knee to deliver ultrasonic energy to eliminate scar tissue without damaging healthy tissue. Along with the procedure, Gasol received stem cell injections to help his recovery.
“I am not sure as to how effective this FAST technique procedure will be, but it is certainly worth a try during the off-season, especially when performed by a board-certified orthopedic surgeon.”, Manhatthan Orthopedic Care’s physician Dr. Armin Tehrany said.
During the playoff series against the Spurs, Gasol admitted that “my knees are being an issue”. He said that his knee, on his left jumping leg, is hurting more than the other. The problem was the degeneration of the tissue so he had to do something to regenerate the knees “so I don’t have to play with this pain”. Gasol is hoping that this injury won’t end his career. The 33-year-old star is out of contract with the Lakers, and after missing most of the games in 2013 season and averaging 13.7 points and 8.6 rebounds, a career low, the LA Lakers may be adamant to offer him a new deal.
“The future is uncertain,” Gasol said. “There’s no doubt about it. It’s a possibility that I could be gone, and there’s a possibility that I could stay. I don’t know the exact percentages of it. But I’m prepared for either way.”
