health careThe Obama administration announced the Sunshine rule that will increase public awareness of financial relationships between drug makers and the doctors. The goal of this new regulation and health care reform called National Physician Payment Transparency Program: Open Payments is to increase transparency in health care.

Patients should know if the doctors have a “financial relationship” with the company that manufactures the medication. This information will allow patients to check if the doctors are prescribing them medication because of financial gain.

“Excellent new healthcare law. I purposely turned down two consulting agreement offers with medical device companies in order to avoid any potential bias in my decision-making. I respect physicians that disclose their financial arrangements. I part-own two of the ambulatory surgery centers I work in and take pride in having control in keeping the quality at the highest level.”, said Manhatthan Orthopaedic Care’s physician Dr. Armin Tehrany.
