New surgery video: Arthroscopic Knee Meniscectomy
Most patients postpone surgical treatment because they are scared of the surgery. However, some patients delay surgical procedures because of their busy working schedule and their dedication to work.
One of Dr. Tehrany’s recent patients was a 32-year-old chemistry teacher who had a meniscus tear. The patient had an appointment with Dr. Tehrany a year and a half ago. Back then, Dr. Tehrany recommended the knee meniscectomy to repair the torn meniscus.
As a devoted teacher with a busy working schedule, the patient decided to postpone the surgery for a period with less work pressure. After a lengthy delay, the patient returned to Manhattan Orthopedic Care, ready to adhere to the expert advice of Dr. Tehrany. With the patient’s best interest in mind, Dr. Tehrany recommended proceeding with a meniscus tear repair to restore the knee’s functionality to normal.
Dr. Tehrany decided to record the surgery and to share an educational video on knee meniscectomy.
Once he inserted the arthroscope inside the knee, Dr. Tehrany had a clear view of the meniscus’ condition. In this particular patient, the tissue was extremely fragile. Unfortunately, it was unstable and could not maintain a complete meniscus repair.
As a result, Dr. Tehrany prompted to proceed with a partial meniscectomy. During the procedure, he carefully cleaned up the area. He thoroughly removed the fragmented and torn outer edges of the meniscus. Additionally, he removed the inflamed synovitis. The body had developed this tissue as a response to the trauma the shoulder went through.
After the surgery, Dr. Tehrany recommended a rest period to allow the knee to restore its strength. Dr. Tehrany and his team expect a successful and speedy recovery for the patient to help him return to his classroom with no pain in his knee.
