New surgery video: Arthroscopic Repair of Complete Rotator Cuff Tear

As an NYPD Honorary Surgeon, Dr. Armin Tehrany warmly provides orthopedic services to the NYPD members. One of his recent patients was an NYPD police chief who suffered a severe shoulder injury on duty.
The patient’s shoulder was in terrible pain, with a limited range of motions due to multiple injuries. The careful examination revealed a torn rotator cuff, labrum tear, and biceps tear.
Dr. Tehrany recommended proceeding with immediate arthroscopic surgery to address all injuries. To help everyone understand the flow of the arthroscopic repair of several shoulder injuries, Dr. Tehrany shared a video of the surgery.
At the beginning of the procedure, Dr. Tehrany inserted the arthroscopic camera to understand the shoulder’s condition better. Unfortunately, along with the previously diagnosed injuries, the patient also had loose bodies that also contributed to increased pain.
“We are going to fix the biceps, and we are going to repair this rotator cuff and reconstruct it,” Dr. Tehrany explained in the video.
For the rotator cuff, Dr. Tehrany employed the double rotator cuff repair technique. With this technique, Dr. Tehrany placed two suture anchors in the humerus’s intermedial aspect along with two in the anterolateral aspect of the greater tuberosity.
Dr. Tehrany opted for this technique because it has provided remarkable success rates in the past. Knowing this, Dr. Tehrany felt more confident that the patient will recover successfully with minimal downtime.
“That is an almost perfect rotator cuff repair, and he should do very well,” said Dr. Tehrany.
Dr. Tehrany and his team also created a recovery plan for the patient to resume natural shoulder activity without pain.
